Mick Nelson, Ph.D., HCCP, Founder

Mick is an urban development specialist based in Nashville, Tennessee. He earned his doctorate from Vanderbilt University, where he focused on affordable housing policy, real estate analysis, and urban development patterns. While there, he joined community advocates in working towards establishing the Barnes Fund for Affordable Housing. Mick has taught undergraduate and graduate level coursework in Community Development and Quantitative and Geographic Analysis at Vanderbilt University.

Mick worked for the Tennessee Housing Development Agency where he developed expertise in asset management, strategic planning, and research. He was also directly responsible for THDA being recognized by the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence.

Mick is a Housing Credit Certified Professional (HCCP) and a licensed real estate agent. He has completed professional education in Financial Analysis for Commercial Investment Real Estate, Professional Real Estate Inspection, Business Strategy, Construction Project Management and Lean Process Improvement Facilitation. 

Mick is on advisory boards for the Nashville Metropolitan Planning Organization and for the Oasis Bike Workshop and is a mentor with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee. He is an active member of the Urban Land Institute Nashville and Greater Nashville REALTORS, frequently leading committee meetings and speaking at public events, He hails from Australia and has two dogs, three bikes, a wonderful wife, and an old red truck.
